MagicTranslate · Privacy Policy
Applies to the macOS app “MagicTranslate” and the website fanyi.shujuf.com · Updated 2026-07-23
What data does the app collect?
MagicTranslate has no accounts, no analytics SDKs, no crash reporting, and sends no translation content to the developer's servers. To fully represent its optional third-party cloud features, the App Store privacy label discloses Other User Content (translation or speech text) and Photos or Videos (cloud OCR images) that may be processed by a provider selected by the user. They are used only for App Functionality and not for tracking.
How is translated content handled?
- Local engines (Apple system translation, the local LLM, Simplified/Traditional conversion, Apple Vision OCR, Apple Speech Live Captions, and macOS system speech): everything runs on your device; content never leaves your Mac.
- Cloud translation, OCR, and speech (optional, off by default): only when you enter your own API key, enable a service, and select it is the relevant text, image, or speech text sent — by the app, directly — to that provider. The provider may retain or process requests according to the account settings, contract, and privacy policy that apply to you; the developer does not proxy, store, or see them.
- Mac App Store service catalog: availability is fixed by the distribution compliance policy. Online services and arbitrary compatible endpoints outside that catalog are not shown and cannot be enabled; the app does not provide a hosted generative-AI proxy.
- API keys are stored only in the macOS Keychain — never in logs or databases.
- History, vocabulary and settings are stored on your Mac and can be deleted in-app at any time.
- Privacy Mode: one switch disables every network-facing capability (cloud translation/OCR/speech, online dictionary, model downloads) and shows a counter of blocked requests — “zero outbound” you can verify yourself.
Model & language pack downloads
When you choose to download a local model or a system language pack, the app connects to the corresponding public distribution source (Hugging Face / the hf-mirror mirror / Apple) to fetch files. That transfer carries model files only — none of your translated content or personal information.
